McDonald’s wanted to go intergalactic with the launch of its new spin-off, beverage-focused restaurant, CosMc’s, so they brought Pixis onboard to create a futuristic drone display in Downtown Dallas to build buzz around the opening of its first locations in the heart of Texas’ boldest city.
The 500-drone light show captured the look, feel, and impressively, the personality of McDonald’s new brand. CosMc’s space/alien theme was in full effect throughout the event and included drone formations of a robot alien head (the restaurant’s mascot), shooting stars, space rings, flying saucers, and more.
The show even incorporated the Dallas skyline itself - flashing lights on the city’s iconic Reunion Tower that illuminated in sync with the drones as they flew by the building. It created an even more immersive experience and also gave the whole evening a decidedly local flair.
The CosMc’s drone light show is emblematic of why marketers and event planners see this technology as an essential multi-purpose “swiss army knife” for their marketing toolbox. A drone show can help achieve multiple goals - product awareness, social media engagement, industry buzz, and earned media - all of which create an enviable ROI for clients and their products, and create a connection between consumers and their brand that lasts long after the show is over.
