Challenge

With LA as a host city for the FIFA World Cup 2026, Michelob ULTRA was launching the Pitchside Club — an immersive 21+ soccer pop-up debuting in Santa Monica ahead of the tournament. Opening night needed to do more than introduce a venue. It needed to announce a cultural moment, the kind that earns its place in the conversation around one of the biggest sporting events in the world.

Solution

We built the largest storytelling canvas in physical space we've ever produced: a 2,500-drone show over the Santa Monica coastline, debuting a first-of-its-kind sky screen technology where each drone acts as a single pixel — forming a 500-foot screen in the sky. On that screen: a USMNT hype video narrated by Christian Pulisic, celebrating soccer's arrival in LA and building momentum ahead of Team USA's opening match. The show anchored a star-studded, invite-only grand opening that included performances by Kevin Hart, Ludacris, DJ Pee .Wee, and Disco Lines.

Results

The show sparked a cultural moment that outlasted the night. National coverage followed from Forbes, Yahoo, LA Galaxy, Press Pass LA, and more — cementing Pitchside Club's arrival as a premier World Cup viewing destination. For Michelob ULTRA, it wasn't just a launch event. It was a statement about where the brand stands in soccer culture at the tournament's biggest moment.

Why It Worked

The World Cup only comes around every four years, and LA only gets to host it once. Michelob ULTRA understood that the launch needed to match the scale of that opportunity. By anchoring opening night with something that had never been done in the sky before, the Pitchside Club didn't just open — it became part of the story of how Los Angeles welcomed the world's game.
